DIRECTOR Q&A

OR: What was the inspiration for your film?

RT: As an International Speaker, Success Coach, Best Selling Author and Entrepreneur I am constantly witnessing the the beauty and the damage a single person can cause. “The Power of Words™” Making a Difference One Person at A Time is about the incredible power each one of us possesses everyday to impact a person, our community and our world for the good. This film short is the first in “The Power In You™ “ Series from Excellence Edge Films.

OR: When did you conceive the idea for your film and how long did it take before it was realized?

RT: I conceived of the idea shortly after I had given a professional talk on sales success. An individual came up and told me how my trademark saying, “Remember, “Your success tomorrow is in direct proportion to your ‘Commitment to Excellence®’ today.”™, he heard years earlier had changed the course of his life positively. That comment reinforced that it is the cumulative effect of the little things that we do positively that makes the world better for everyone. So on and off, I thought about the need for this type of powerful and inspirational short film for about ten years. When the right mix of things happened to come together and happened to meet an incredible Cinematographer that was like minded, Aja Vickers, I decided God was giving me a nudge. I moved on the idea and we got started quickly after that. We won a One-Reeler Short Film Award with our film so I believe we are on the right track. “The Power of Words™” Making a Difference One Person at A Time” is just the first installment in an uplifting Series titled “The Power In You™.

OR: What was the most challenging aspect of working in a short film format?

RT: Definitely, it is delivering a powerful message on film in such a short time. The story and message must be developed and delivered quickly but in a way that the visual imagery, sound and emotions will tell a story and impart and idea and feelings that will last and that the person seeing it will not just say that’s nice but that they will take action.

OR: What was the most challenging aspect of your production?

RT: Getting all the moving parts to come together for a film shoot live in one evening in a public place. No time for retakes.

OR: Do you have any advice for first-time filmmakers?

RT: Don’t be afraid of failure, instead embrace the opportunity to succeed. And, “Remember, “Your success tomorrow is in direct proportion to your ‘Commitment to Excellence®’ today.”™ – Richard Tyler
