FAQ

Q: DO YOU ACCEPT INTERNATIONAL SUBMISSIONS?

A: Yes we do! Films in any language other than English must have English subtitles though.

Q: I’M HAVING ISSUES SUBMITTING ONLINE THROUGH YOUR WEBSITE.  WHAT SHOULD I DO?

A: If you are experiencing difficulties with our online submission form, please contact the competition organizer at jeff@one-reeler.net or call the office at +1 323-844-3918.

Q: DID YOU RECEIVE MY SUBMISSION?

A: As long as you paid through PayPal and have an e-mail receipt then we have received your submission. A separate e-mail confirmation from One-Reeler is automatically generated to let you know that we are reviewing your submission. We do a thorough quality check on all films to ensure there are no technical issues. If there are none, an official confirmation will be sent to you within 1-3 business days. If we do uncover any technical issues with your link, we will contact you to resolve them.

Q: DO YOU ACCEPT SCRIPTS FOR ANIMATED SHORTS?

A:  Yes we do!

Q: IS THERE A PAGE LIMIT FOR SCRIPTS?

A: No. The industry standard is one page per minute of screen time, but we realize this is not a precise formula. So long as you are submitting the script used to film your 12-minute or less short film, there are no restrictions with respects to page count.

Q: CAN I SUBMIT A SCRIPT BUT NOT THE FILM?

A: If you wish to submit a script only, please contact our organizer at jeff@one-reeler.net.

Q: MY FILM IS LONGER THAN 12 MINUTES. CAN I STILL SUBMIT?

A: Due the the number of requests we receive to make an exception to the 12 minute rule, we have recently launched a sister competition, Global Shorts, which does not have this restriction. Global Shorts is its own competition with separate judges and a different Awards package. And if your film is 12 minutes or less, you can submit to both! You can read more about Global Shorts at www.global-shorts.net.

Q: DO YOU HOLD PUBLIC SCREENINGS FOR THE WINNING FILMS?

A: We do NOT. We are a competition and not a screening festival. Films are judged privately by in-house staff and industry professionals. Because many festivals require premiere status, by keeping the judging private we are able to accommodate more filmmakers. Winning films will be listed on the One-Reeler website with a still image only, as well as optional Filmmaker Q&A. Films that receive our Special Mention placement will be listed by title + director only.

Q: WHEN ARE THE DEADLINES?

A: Submissions are accepted year-round. Winners are announced twice a year within 3-4 weeks after our June 30th and December 31st deadlines.

Q: DO ALL WINNERS RECEIVE AN AWARD?

A: The winner of our Best Short Film category will receive one CUSTOM ONE-REELER STATUETTE at no cost to them. All winners will have the option to acquire this award and other keepsakes to commemorate their achievement. All winners will receive WINNER LAURELS, as well as IMDb Awards credit.
