Synopsis: Patrick meets the love of his life, Violet, while trapped in a tumultuous relationship with another woman, Livie. Violet’s mother gives him the task of a lifetime—taking care of Violet. What will he do? Will he stay in a relationship ruled by sexual desire or take a chance on true love? The film is set in the 1950s in the rural South. Cousins Bessie and Dorothy invite homebody, Violet, along for a trip to South Carolina to visit friends and to have a good time. On the way home from the trip, they give a handsome hitchhiker, Patrick, a ride. Violet and Patrick seem to have an instant attraction, but they could have never imagined what would happen next. When the travel weary foursome reach Violet’s home, her very inebriated mother, Mamie, emerges from the house and accuses the girls of having ‘being fast’ and having too good of a time on their trip. Mamie believes that her suspicions are true when she sees Patrick. She screams that she doesn’t want to hear any excuses. She storms into the house and comes back with all of Violet’s belongings then tells Patrick that he is now responsible for taking care of her. Not fully understanding what is happening, they get back into the car and drive away. By the time they reach Patrick’s home, he has decided that he “will” take care of Violet, but he has to confront Livie first. He tells Livie she must go and after a struggle to keep her from harming Violet, Livie grabs her bag and leaves. Patrick assures Violet that everything will be okay. They spend the next 50 years together and die only a few days apart of each other.
