DIRECTOR Q&A

OR: What was the inspiration for your film?

QP: I was in an airport waiting for a flight when I saw two people sitting next to each other. They were both eating a sandwich. One stood up and put the empty bag into the trash. The other one left their trash on the seat. I started to think about two kinds of people.

OR: When did you conceive the idea for your film and how long did it take before it was realized?

QP: I wrote the script in 30 minutes while sitting at the airport. I then decided to walk away from my gate, missing my flight, call a few friends and shoot the film in one day in Maine. From writing to rough cut it was only 3 days.

OR: What was the most challenging aspect of working in a short film format?

QP: The total artistic control that you have. From start to finish you can really begin to focus in on your idea.

OR: What was the most challenging aspect of your production?

QP: Sound is always one of the most important aspects of any production. Because we were moving so fast it took us some major work to nail down a sound guy in one day.

OR: Do you have any advice for first-time filmmakers?

QP: There are two types of filmmakers….those that wait around, and those that just do it!
