Synopsis: A widow with a broken hip meets a single mother with her toddler in the park. The mother is initially reluctant to engage in conversation, not believing they have any common ground – but the toddler’s first steps provide an initial talking point and an unexpected connection grows. The widow, who is herself relearning how to walk after breaking her hip, derives inspiration from their meeting. For both women, their chance encounter is the first tentative step towards an end to isolation and makes them realize that loneliness can only end if you take the first steps
