FILMMAKER Q&A – Gil Rivera – Director, Cinematographer, Editor

OR: What was the inspiration for your film?

GR: I was actually inspired by the company Tesla and their impact to the near future. I was wondering how a future NYC would look like after Tesla becomes the worlds biggest company. This and a discussion with my crew about developing ideas for reels and future productions.

OR: When did you conceive the idea for your film and how long did it take before it was realized?

GR: This idea came to me back in early May. We shot it on May 13th. And by May 23rd it was edited and up on Vimeo. I would say It was a pretty quick production.

OR: What was the most challenging aspect of working in a short film format?

GR: The most challenging part of short film format is limiting a story. Compressing all the ideas into something extremely short but still pleasing and interesting.

OR: What was the most challenging aspect of your production?

GR: The most challenging part of this short was creating the New York City skyline. Deciding how to make NYC look a bit more futuristic, within my limits, but not unrecognizable.

OR: Do you have any advice for first-time filmmakers?

GR: My best advice to first time film makers would be not to procrastinate. Do it. Develop your idea and do it. Then move on to another idea and do it again. Holding on to ideas and not making them will not help you at all.
